Billboard Changes

Billboard Feedback (2)

It needs to be clearer that it is a billboard for the advertisement of a newspaper. The links to the steel works are a bit too tenuous and need to more clearly link to this to show continuity between the final pieces.

Billboard Justification

For our Billboard, as explained in our initial ideas, we decided to experiment with the concept of a silhouette. Our reasoning for this was we wanted to show parallels between our newspaper front page and our billboard. The use of 'The Steel Mill' and the fact that this is a newspaper about corby suggests that the newspaper heading derives from the steel works which provided work for corby workers many years ago. The silhouette of New, although not the steel works, gives the impression of   industrialisation, which shows continuity between the two pieces of work produced.

Radio Adverts and Billboards

  • Two common options when it comes to deliver a company's advertising campaign
  • Radio adverts are usually less expensive than billboards
  • Billboards provide visuals alongside their message whereby many people can see it, whereas radio adverts are spoken and they are advertised mostly to those in their cars, driving.
  • On the radio, spots are usually 15-30 seconds long and they can include sound, dialogue, narrative or announcement, yet the listener doesn't have to listen to it as they can switch radio stations.
  • As billboards are around 24/7, radio adverts usually have a repetitive message plus radio buyers purchase packages of at least 100 spots for the advert.
  • For the billboard they usually have a minimum placement of 3-4 months as this is usually required on standard outdoor signs.
  • Radio Adverts can be recorded and distributed within a week and this can allow them to talk about current brand messages or special promotions.
  • Billboards don't offer the same flexibility as they must provide several week lead time for production and placement. They must also plan a message that will have a similar impact after a few months.
  • A billboard would consist of a few words and a large image

Billboard Advertising

Why newspapers advertise on billboards:

As billboards are commonly located on busy streets, this means that anyone can see it. This will allow the newspaper to reach a wider audience and not just their original target audience, therefore it can be guaranteed that the newspaper will be heard of or spoken of.
Also, they can use customised placement as they can choose where they want their billboard to go; whether thats on a busy street or on a road where it is difficult to target some people and get them aware of the newspaper.

Advertisement Feedback

Feedback:
  • The first advert is too dark and is difficult to look at, the second advert is a better colour, however it doesn't clearly relate to Christmas
  • Change the colours of the writing and background so they all relate to Christmas due to it being a Christmas advert
  • Insert a product image that the company sells
  • The '20%' could be brought down slightly
  • Add a small print along the bottom to emphasise clear dates

Changes to 'Other Headlines'

After attempting this section with a grey box and black text, I changed the colour of the text to see if it would look more professional in white text. I will get feedback on both of these to decide which one suits the newspaper best.

Changes to 'Other Headlines'

I have experimented with the 'other headlines' section and have included a grey box to put the text in.
The intention is to get feedback on this as to whether the box itself works as well as the colour.

Photo Ideas

Photo Plan

Main Story: This story is about a local restaurant that is to be inspected due to health complaints that have arisen.

  • Replace the Harvester photo with one of my own
  • Take them from different angles and then decide which one will work best when put into the story
Second Story: This story is about a family that have not seen each other in a decade and they have plans to reunite soon.
  • Take a photo of a family as if they have just been reunited
  • Take a selection of photos; some as a family and some as smaller groups to show the separation
  • Decide which type of photo will suit the story best

Possible Changes to 'Other Headlines'

This newspaper has an 'inside' section to the newspaper and we may consider changing our 'other headlines' section to something similar as this looks slightly more professional to what we originally have, therefore we may apply this to our own.

Possible Changes to 'Other Headlines'

We are considering changing our 'other headlines' section to something like the strip line along the side that is in yellow as we were unable to find the original newspaper we took inspiration from and, therefore we found that the section of the newspaper didn't look professional enough, hence our decision to change it.

Mock up MastHeads Feedback

Fonts
Comment one: The first and third font look the most like a newspaper, the other two look too swirly and don't look very realistic so it doesn't match the genre effectively

Comment two: the third font looks best, the first could work but the boldness and depth of the third looks most newspaper-like.

Logo

Comment one: I like the camera but I think it would be hard to incorporate and it doesn't look as though it would fit the name of the newspaper

Comment two: The man reading the newspaper looks cool, it fits with your the title.
